Agile vs Waterfall
Project Management We have 11 years' experience in project management, focusing on combined project management and technical team leadership roles in highly technical development projects. We have experience in both Waterfall and Agile software development methodologies. Waterfall software development is a sequential software development model (a process for the creation of software) in which development is seen as flowing steadily downwards (like a waterfall) through the phases of requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing (validation), integration, and maintenance. Agile software development is a conceptual framework for software engineering that promotes development iterations throughout the life-cycle of the project. Agile methods emphasize face-to-face communication over written documents. Most agile teams are located in a single open office sometimes referred to as a bullpen. At a minimum, this includes programmers and their "customers" (customers define the product; they may be product managers, business analysts, or the clients). The office may include testers, interaction designers, technical writers, and managers. Our experience includes:
  • Ensuring projects are approved and appropriately funded.
  • Working with business clients to produce business functional specifications and user requirements.
  • Creating and maintaining project plans and resource plans via Microsoft Project.
  • Ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Working with data architecture for data modeling requirements.
  • Mentoring team members in programming techniques, SQL query optimization and understanding business processes.
  • Producing project status reports.
  • Hiring additional personnel as required.
  • Obtaining approval for software promotions - (acceptance to PROD support and PROD environments).
